SI Athletes and their Wives

Posted by matteise on February 24, 2008

Well loyal readers, I’ve given you all plenty of time to look over my take on the SI Models and my take on their performances. With that said, it is now time to look at the wives of several athletes. The 2008 SI Issue includes the wives of Johnny Damon, Jeff Garcia, Jeff Gordon, and Carmelo Anthony. Before I go any further, I would like to restate that the wives of Johnny Damon and Jeff Garcia are included. Despite the fact that Damon has the second worst throwing arm in baseball (Yup, Juan your #1) and the fact that he has sucked for several years, he’s married to someone who has made the SI Swimsuit Issue. Secondly, Jeff Garcia’s wife is in the magazine. Do you think Terrell Owens is still convinced that Garcia smells like a rat…(…is gay)? He may sound it, but it sure doesn’t look it. Before I get to the ladies that made it, I’d like to first give some recognition to some athletes and their wives who did not make this year’s edition.

Kris and Anna Benson

Jose and Melissa Lima

Brad Penny, Barry Zito,…….., Carl Pavano and Alyssa Milano

Scott Podsednik and Lisa Dergen

Mark and Jamie Kotsay

And a list of about 50 others starting with Elisha Dushku.

SI Player Wife: Michelle Damon

Posted by matteise on February 24, 2008

I bet you didn’t know that Johnny Damon has been one of the most productive major leaguers since 2000 as he ranks 3rd in active runs, 7th in active hits and stolen bases since then. With that said, does anyone really like Johnny? Does anyone remember that he was a Kansas City Royal? Did you know that the reason he looked like a caveman is because of reckless play in centerfield in the 2003 ALDS when he ran into teammate Damian Jackson? I hate Johnny Damon.

As far as Michelle goes, she does a good job for SI. Frankly, I think she belongs in the magazine more than her husband Johnny. In fact, I suggest that whenever Johnny is mentioned in the magazine during 2008 they should use a picture of Michelle.

BEST PICTURE:

OVERALL: 8/10 She does a better job leading off then her husband.

SI Player Wife: Carmella Garcia

Posted by matteise on February 24, 2008

I bet you didn’t know that Jeff Garcia is one of four NFL starting quarterbacks who are Mexican-American; the other three being Tony Romo, J. P. Losman and Marc Bulger. Further, I bet you most don’t realize that Jeff Garcia is one of the most annoying quarterbacks in the NFL. He always finds a way to start on a team that I want to win the Super Bowl…and he never can do it!!! Like Terrell Owens, I and most of the world occasionally doubted Jeff’s sexual preferences, while I wasn’t so sure it smelt like a rat, I was just unsure about all that time he spent in San Fran. Overall, does Jeff Garcia really deserve to be married to a former Playboy Playmate…My opinion, NO.

As far as Carmella goes, she’s definitely an attractive women who belongs in any issue filled with models. However, I have a BIG problem with the swimsuit choice in this issue. Her swimsuit might be the worst choice of any wife or of any model. The fact that she’s married to Jeff Garcia is just adds to the fire.

BEST PICTURE:

OVERALL: 4/10 If she was in a better swimsuit and if she wasn’t married to Jeff Garcia, she could easily be a 9 or 10.

SI Player Wife: Ingrid Vandebosch

Posted by matteise on February 24, 2008

If you’re a football fan and thinking that Tennessee Titan Kyle Vanden Bosch has a wife that made the SI Swimsuit Issue and therefore you want to kill yourself, I suggest you stop. Ingrid is the wife of NASCAR (Okay, maybe killing yourself is back in play) driver Jeff Gordon. I’m not going to lie, when it comes to NASCAR, I am a fan of the #24 car. Jeff is a good guy who was screwed over by his previous wife. While Dale Jr. and Jimmie Johnson may be the future of NASCAR, Jeff will always be remembered as one of the best.

As far as Ingrid goes, she does a pretty damn good job for a 37 year old and former winner of the Elite Look of the Year…(IN 1990!!!). Ingrid is a Belgian model whom now spends much of her time at racetracks…watching NASCAR. No wonder baseball players are seen as being attractive…3 hours watching a baseball game or 5 hours watching cars turn left, tough choice.

BEST PICTURE

OVERALL: 9.5/10 Ingrid is ahead of the pack when it comes to the wives in 2008.

SI Player Wife: La La Vazquez

Posted by matteise on February 24, 2008

I’ve been a long time fan of Carmelo Anthony for some time now. I first saw him play at the McDonald’s All-American Game at Madison Square Garden and then I followed his every move as a Freshman at Syracuse as I predicted a National Championship from his team and my personal favorite player of that year Mr. McNamara. Now a days, “Melo” is a Nugget running around with the Answer. Of the 4 athlete’s being represented in the magazine, I think if I had to be any of them, I’d choose Melo.

When it comes to La La, the first thing that catches my eye is her name. La La…one of the worst names…EVER. Come on, Monique, Laquisha, Candice, ANYTHING BUT LA LA. Secondly, I must say, it sure looks like Carmelo didn’t listen to Sir Mix A Lot growing up, but ah, La La appears to the opposite of a certain song that most people know.

OVERALL: 5/10 HER NAME IS LA LA!!!

Stat of the Day

Posted by matteise on February 18, 2008

At times in 2007 Dodger fans wanted to scream at the futility of certain players (Juan Pierre) on countless occasions. How pathetic was Juan in 2007, well here’s an interesting stat for ya:

In 2007, Dodger batters had 62 outs hit to the CATCHER. Of these 62, only 12 were sacrifice bunts. Who was the team leader? You guessed it, Juan Pierre with 14. Juan made more outs to the catcher in 2007 then Dodger pitchers. For a speedster like Juan, one would expect him to have an ability to lay down a bunt to someone other than the damn catcher.

Additionally, of the 222 Dodger batters that made outs to the pitcher (in non-sacrifice’s) Juan Pierre again was the team leader with 58. Dodger pitchers? Only 29.

The Kyle Kendrick Trade Revisited

Posted by matteise on February 18, 2008

I got to thinking, what would have happened had a team with Olmedo tried to pull this trade? Would Olmedo have helped the guy pack his bags and personally try and greet Kobayashi at the airport? Would Olmedo have cried with joy? Frankly, I think this prank would have been even better at cameras been planted on Olmedo for something like this. The thought of him hearing Kobayashi as a potential teammate would have been amazing. Hell, it probably could still work…

He Did it All For the Nookie..(No Olmedo, Not Cookie)

Posted by matteise on February 18, 2008

NOOK, NOOK, NOOK…LOGAN!!!!

Move over Juan Pierre, Nook Logan is now the man. Exavier Prente Logan, a career .265 hitter could potentially bring a lot to the Dodgers in 2008. Unlike Juan Pierre, Logan isn’t afraid to get hit by a pitch (evident by his 1 HBP in ‘07…Hey Juan, you had 0). Also, as fast as Juan is, he hit into 10 double plays…Logan only hit into 9. Yup, it looks like Nook Logan is the 2008 Juan Pierre…aside from the whole Pierre contract and all.

Bet you didn’t know Nook has played with 143 different big leaguers…
